Academic Interests

  • Visual SLAM. A lot of work has already been done, but we are a long way away from dense 3D maps in real-time.
  • Virtual reality. I enjoy projects that have to do with haptics, motion capture, augmented reality and the like.
  • Computer vision and graphic cards. There are a lot of new technology available (graphic cards specifically) and I am eager to make use of these technologies for various vision tasks.
  • Image features, somehow I think we can do a lot better than the currently available technology, and there is an itch that wants to try.
  • AI and machine learning.
  • Blimps, I was introduced to blimps by my supervisor and the idea of an autonomous cloud of blimps tickles me a lot. Note that I really think it's possible to have blimps that stay up nearly indefinitely, more on this here. Furthermore, I believe this stuff has political significance and can in the long run lead to a better world. Furthermore Airships can be one of the technologies that shape the political face of the world explained here (Warning blimp related political rhetoric included).
  • Economics, The mix of economics with AI techniques could have fabulous results both for modelling economic environments and decision making in such environments. During my work on TACSCM I realized the power of autonomous decision making. Now that I look back newer AI techniques can increase that power many folds.
